Events App: When is the Event?

By Phil Forslund | Monday, February 24, 2020

The Events App date function is being upgraded and will be live on Tuesday, Feb. 25th!

Some of the new features include:

  • Ability to add dates for each occurrence of the event by simply clicking [ Add another date ] and selecting the date and time.
  • Each date occurrence of an Event can now have its own start and end time. No longer have to be the same on every date occurrence.
  • Can still configure recurring date occurrences by using the Recurring Dates Generator.
  • When using the Recurring Dates Generator you have the option to replace all existing event dates.
  • Date occurrences are shown in the backend with date formatting for easy checking and editing. Sunday, March 8, 2020 09:00 am - 05:00 pm

Below is a screenshot of what the new When is the Event? section will look like:

When a date occurrence has been entered it will condense into a single line format for easy checking and editing.

Multiple date occurrence would show like this:

Each date occurrence of an Event can have its own start and end time. The times no longer have to be the same on every date occurrence. You can see in the weekend festival above where Friday is from 5 pm - 10 pm and then Saturday is from 9 am - 10 pm and Sunday is 9 am - 5 pm. Each date occurrence has different times.

The Recurring Dates Generator

This functionality can be used when the Event has recurring date occurrences (for example, "every Monday" or "1st of each month") to quickly add dates. This is the same recurring events function that is currently on the platform. The dates will be generated after you save the Event. When using the Recurring Dates Generator the start time and end time will have to be the same, but after the Event has been saved they will be populated in the dates section where you can edit them individually. You can also use this function an unlimited amount of times. There is also an option to replace existing event dates if there was an error or if you just want to clear old data.

None of these changes will affect the dates and times of Events that are already in the system.

We hope this will solve a lot of the issues we have heard or seen about the Events dates and time functionality. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. If you have any questions, comments or other ways to make this functionality better, please feel free to email phil@oneboat.com.
